We expect all participants to follow these rules within all Code & Supply venues and events, virtual or in-person, and within all official Code & Supply communication channels. This policy is subject to changes without notice.
It was adapted from multiple sources, including the
- Geek Feminism Code of Conduct,
- AMC Theatres' Code of Conduct Policy,
- Heinz Field's Fan Code of Conduct,
- Libre Planet's Safe Space Policy,
- Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy,
- FCC definitions of Obscene, Indecent, and Profane Broadcasts, and the
- FTC report on Virtual Worlds and Kids.
It uses the gender-neutral third person singular pronouns "person", "per" and "pers", which work like "she", "her" and "hers".
Code & Supply is dedicated to providing an enjoyable event for everyone and expects participants at our events to act in a way that promotes an environment that is harassment-free, safe, comfortable, and enjoyable to be a part of.
Our events are for everyone, regardless of per gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, veteran status, socioeconomic status, or criminal record. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form.
You agree that when at Code & Supply events, you will behave in a way that enables our expected environment and will not, by way of example, and not as a limitation:
These rules apply to all event patrons, invited guests, paying sponsors, staff, and volunteers. You are responsible for your own conduct as well as the conduct of your guests and/or persons acting on your behalf.
When participating in certain roles, you are acting as a representative of Code & Supply and your behavior should reflect that duty. All persons associated with Code & Supply are required to avoid conduct that is detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in Code & Supply.
Roles that may fall under this policy include, but are not limited to, event presenters, speakers, volunteers, paid workers, or contracted staff.
Participants asked to stop any inappropriate behavior are expected to comply at once.
If a participant engages in inappropriate behavior, the event organizers keep the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender, expulsion from the event with no refund or payment, temporarily or indefinitely prohibiting the offender from participating in Code & Supply events or communication forums, or contacting local law enforcement or venue security.
Event organizers may redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants.
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible by talking to or emailing event staff. Event staff can be identified by t-shirts. Harassment and other code of conduct violations reduce the value of our event for everyone.
When taking a report, our staff will make sure you are safe and cannot be overheard. They may involve other event staff to make sure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we'll ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we'll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won't be asked to confront anyone and we won't tell anyone who you are.
Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise aid those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.

To all people,
We welcome you.
We welcome people of any gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, size, nationality, sexual orientation, ability level, neurotype, religion, elder status, family structure, culture, subculture, political opinion, identity, and self-identification. We welcome activists, artists, bloggers, crafters, dilettantes, musicians, photographers, readers, writers, ordinary people, extraordinary people, and everyone between. We welcome people who want to change the world, people who want to keep in touch with friends, people who want to learn new skills, and people who want to teach someone their skills. We welcome you no matter if the Internet was a household word by the time you started secondary school or whether you were already retired by the time the World Wide Web was invented.
We welcome you. You may wear a baby sling, hijab, a kippah, leather, piercings, a pentacle, a political badge, a rainbow, a rosary, tattoos, or something we can only dream of. You may carry a guitar or knitting needles or a sketchbook. Conservative or liberal, libertarian or socialist - we believe it's possible for people of all viewpoints and persuasions to come together and learn from each other. We believe in the broad spectrum of individual and collective experience and in the inherent dignity of all people. We believe that amazing things come when people from different worlds and world-views approach each other to create a conversation.
We get excited about software - from pro to amateur, from scripts to complex operating systems, from the storied engineer-architect who's been doing this for decades to the person who picked up a For Dummies book last week. We support maximum freedom of creative expression, within the few restrictions we need to keep our conference welcoming for other attendees. Being a physical event, we're obliged to follow US, Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh laws, but we're serious about knowing and protecting your rights when it comes to free expression and privacy. We will never put a limit on your creativity because it makes someone uncomfortable - even if that someone is us.
We think accessibility for people with disabilities is a priority, not an afterthought. We think neurodiversity is a feature, not a bug. We believe in being inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of anyone who comes to us with good faith and the wish to build a community.
We have enough conference organization experience to know that there are inevitably things that fall through the cracks. We guarantee that we have enough hope, energy, and idealism to never stop improving. We may not be able to please everyone, but we can certainly work to avoid offending anyone. We promise that if we get it wrong, we'll listen carefully and respectfully to you when you point it out to us, and we'll do our best to make good on our mistakes.
We think our technical and business experience is important, but we think our community experience is more important. We know what goes wrong when companies say one thing and do another, or when they refuse to say anything at all. We believe that keeping our operations transparent is as important as keeping our attendees, speakers, and sponsors happy.
We won't treat people as second-class undesireables because they're non-mainstream or might frighten sponsors. We care about our sponsors, but our attendees are who we do this for. To us, you're not eyeballs. You're not supportive tweets. You're not demographic groups. You're people.
Come conference with us.
